Sail Away With Me

images-1

SAIL AWAY WITH ME a book of poems old and new about the sea and those who sail upon it.

Do you remember Wynken, Blynken and Nod by Eugene Field?

Wynken, Blyken and Nod one night

Sailed off in a wooden shoe;

Sailed off on a river of crystal light.

Into a sea of dew . . .

How about Edward Lear’s wonderful The Owl and the Pussycat?

The Owl and the Pussycat went to sea

In a beautiful pea-green boat,

They took some honey, and plenty of money

Wrapped up in a five pound note . . .

In my book for children you will find these and a few other treasures from the past. Old but not forgotten.

In Sail Away With Me you will also find my own poems. Such as The Good Ship Royal . . . Here’s a taste:

On the good ship Royal

There’s a curious crew,

Surely the most curious

That I ever knew.

The captain’s a hippo,

In a proper cap,

First mate is a jackass,

Now, just fancy that!

continued . . .

Or,

A Boat for Jillian

In a land far away

From you and me

Lives a girl named Jillian Kane.

“With my boat,” says she, “I’ll go out to play

On the big blue beautiful sea.”

“My boat’s ‘The Pearl’,

She’s strong and fine

With her fishing nets

and flags all flying.

We shall leave with the moon

And sail till we find

The other side of the world.

continued . . .

Laura Beingessner’s magical illustrations bring these words to life.
